Original Watercolors

Original artwork is extra special. After all, it’s the real deal! It’s the culmination of all the thinking and planning, painting and sometimes the struggle that an artist goes through to create these special works of art. When you have an original work of art on your wall, you have something that is unique and wonderful and it includes a bit of that artist, as well.

Each of these original artworks is hand-signed, matted and framed.

Please contact me if you are interested in more information about any of these original watercolors.

Where the Light Lingers

25.75” x 32” (framed size is 33.5” x 39.5”)

I don't usually paint landscapes but the idea of painting some birch trees in their glorious fall foliage has been floating around in my brain for a long while, and I finally got around to doing that.

There's something special about late afternoons on warm, sunny fall days that makes this one of my favorite seasons.  The title of this painting, "Where the Light Lingers", seemed like the perfect description of this autumn scene.

Reflections On a Legend (Cessna 195 Businessliner)

25.75” x 32” (framed size is 33.5” x 39.5”)

I was visiting the Gig Harbor Vintage Aero Museum and saw a stunning 1953 Cessna 195 Businessliner that is part of their collection. It was painted a brilliant red and white, and has classic Art Deco styling details that have helped to make this vintage plane a legend. Of course, I was intrigued!

I decided to paint it but wanted to imagine it out of the hanger into a bright, sunny day, and I made the artistic decision to also change the white parts of the airplane to chrome so they could reflect the surrounding sky and airport.

Can you identify what is in the plane’s reflections?

Here is a link to a video about how I painted it.

Born to Shine

25.75” x 32” (framed size is 33.5” x 39.5”)

I was at a vintage car show and saw this beautiful 1954 MG, model TF, and thought that it could possibly be a neat painting. I was right! It was so much fun painting all the reflections of people, trees and buildings in their glorious distortion. All that shiny chrome!

It was especially fun to paint a "double reflection". Just above the "54" on the license plate is a bumper headlight. The backside of this headlight is reflected onto the body of the car (reflection #1), including the reflection that's on the back of that headlight (reflection #2). Confusing? It was fun sorting it all out!

Harbor Morning

25.75” x 32” (framed size is 33.5” x 39.5”)

Imagine early morning with small wavelets lapping against the hull, causing your boat to gently sway.  The familiar smells of salt water and seaweed, with perhaps a touch of fog that will soon burn off.

This watercolor evokes this image of a peaceful harbor that has not yet awakened to the sounds of mariners and sea gulls.

I live near a harbor like this, and am forever grateful for that!

Afternoon On the Fire Escape

21” x 26” (framed size is 28.5” x 33.5”)

I saw this intriguing shadowscape on a brick building when I was out driving a couple of years ago, and it had been nagging me to be painted ever since (you artists out there will know what I mean by that!)

What really attracted me to this scene was the starkness of the symmetrical shadows of the fire escape as they fell across the weathered bricks on a warm summer late afternoon.

In the actual photo, the doors and fire escape were painted the same color as the bricks, but artistic license allowed me to change them to a lovely shade of Cobalt Teal, and I added the cats and pot of flowers, as well.  Can you find both cats?

In case you were wondering, yes, I painted each brick individually and included splashes of Winsor Violet and Cobalt Teal in the bricks to help tie the painting together.

This painting won 2nd place as well as the People’s Choice Award at the 2025 Peninsula Art League’s Summer Member Show.

Water Lily Sunrise

22” x 28” (framed size is 29.5” x 35.5”)

While on a tour of local gardens, I noticed this lovely water lily pond. I was attracted by the play of light and reflection on the water as well as the calm beauty of the pink water lilies.

For this painting, I changed the time of day from mid-day to sunrise and added some tree reflections to create a sense of timeless serenity.

Reflections and Shadows

21.5” x 28” (framed size is 28.75” x 35.5”)

Painting glass is all about the details. This painting ended up taking me a lot of patience and about 50 hours to finish.

I really enjoyed seeing the reflections of the glass in the dark window, as well as the interesting shadows the vases and teapot made on the white table, especially where the blue vase shadows overlap the teapot shadows.

I made a time lapse video of how I painted it here.

Inner Worlds

16” x 20” (framed size is 24.25” x 28”)

I remember being fascinated by marbles when I was a kid. The smooth feel of the little glass globes in my hand, the click and clack of the game of marbles, the covetous collecting of new marbles that I won -- it was all great fun!

But what I really liked was to just look at them. They came in so many different sizes and colors, some opaque and simple, others with an almost ethereal appearance.

The beautiful glass marbles seemed to have their own "inner worlds" as I gazed into their depths.

The Mountain’s Out!

19” x 27” (framed size is 27.25” x 35.5”)

“The Mountain’s Out!” That's the siren call in Puget Sound where I live when we get a sunny, clear day after days or weeks of grey weather.

That's when the low clouds that enshroud "The Mountain” finally lift and we can see Mt. Rainier, with it's snowy mountain majesty and jaw dropping silhouette, towering over our cool Pacific Northwest waters.

Boats of all types can be found skimming about on sunny days in this view of the mountain from Gig Harbor.

Fresh Seafood

15” x 28” (framed size is 21” x 34”)

This sign can be found in a small waterfront community near me named Boston Harbor.

It's one of many local communities with small marinas and are fun places to stop for lunch.

The seagulls think so, too -- they love the fresh fish, of course, but they keep a sharp eye out for any delicious tidbit that might come their way. French fries, anyone?
