The Chesapeake Blue crab can be found all along the Atlantic coastal waters.

I was excited to paint this fellow because of the beautiful colors on his shell and pinchers, and how he complimented the colors of the beach and tide.  

I live near the salty waters of Puget Sound in Washington state and love to go poking around in tidepools when the tide is out.  All sorts of creatures, including crabs, live in our marine environment and it's fun to watch them as they scurry around their own little ponds.
